WHAT IS THE ERASER TOOL IN ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR?

The Eraser Tool is one of the easiest ways to manipulate and erase vector shapes within Adobe Illustrator. We can use this tool freehand to create custom paths, or there are a few shortcuts we can use to make our lives a lot easier by erasing blocks and straight lines.

WHERE IS THE ERASER TOOL IN ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR?

The easiest way to locate the Eraser Tool in Adobe Illustrator is by using the shortcut SHIFT + E. You can also find the Tool along the left hand side of your toolbar.

HOW TO CHANGE THE SETTINGS OF THE ERASER TOOL

Within the Eraser Tool settings, we have the option to change the brush angle, roundness and size.

  1. Locate the Eraser Tool on your toolbar.

  2. Double click the icon.

  3. The Eraser Tool Options box will appear and you can change all settings there.

HOW TO MAKE THE ERASER TOOL SMALLER - SHORTCUT

A really quick way to change the size of your Eraser Tool brush is to simply use [ and ] buttons on your keyboard to make the brush bigger or smaller!


HOW TO ERASE STRAIGHT LINES

To erase a straight line, simply hold down SHIFT while dragging your mouse with the Eraser Tool selected. This works for both horizontal lines, vertical lines and diagonal lines.

HOW TO ERASE BLOCKS

To erase blocks of your vector shapes, simply hold down ALT while dragging your mouse with the Eraser Tool selected. Such a quick way to level out the bottoms of uneven shapes.
